I am a lecturer in translation and communication studies in the Department of English at Tohoku Gakuin University (Sendai, Japan) since April 2012.

Between September 2011 and March 2012, I worked on the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded research project 'Manga Movies: Contemporary Japanese Cinema, Media Franchising and Adaptation' as a post-doctoral researcher. This research project is led by Dr Rayna Denison in the School of Film and Television Studies at the University of East Anglia.

I completed my PhD in the School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia in spring 2011. For my thesis titled 'De-Feminising Translation: Making Women Visible in Japanese Translation', I focused specifically on the gap between source texts and target texts, and indications of the gap, with a particular interest in gender issues in translation—for example, how female speech in English novels is represented in the Japanese translations, how the gap in the speech style creates differences in impressions of the female character in the original novel and her counterpart in the Japanese translation, etc. At the theoretical level, I examined language and gender, translation and ideology, the theory and practice of translation, and literature as a mediator of ideology. Some experimental de-feminising translation strategies are also proposed in my thesis.
